President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that Nigeria’s national history would have remained incomplete if he had not emerged victorious in the 2023 presidential election

Speaking on Sunday in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, during the 8th Day Fidau prayers held in honour of the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, President Tinubu paid glowing tributes to the revered monarch for his pivotal role in shaping his political trajectory. According to iReporter Online, Tinubu described the monarch as a guiding force whose confidence and spiritual support contributed significantly to his triumph at the polls.

“Our national story would have been lacking a key chapter if I had lost that election,” Tinubu declared. “I succeeded because of the prayers and support from people like the late Awujale. He looked me in the eyes and said, ‘You will win this election, and you will win one more time. Go ahead.’”

According to iReporter Online, Tinubu further lauded the monarch’s enduring legacy, highlighting his unwavering commitment to the cause of democracy and his support for the June 12 movement. He also expressed appreciation to Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, whom he fondly referred to as “Okanlomo Eleyi of Ogun State,” for his role in honouring the monarch before and after his burial.
