His message, read by Florence Obi, Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, highlighted the government’s efforts to revitalize federal universities to drive research aimed at solving Nigeria’s pressing challenges.

“Education is the foundation for national development,” Tinubu said. “It is a powerful tool for combating poverty and driving economic growth.”

Reiterating the importance of education, the President emphasized its inclusion among his administration’s eight key focus areas, which also include economy, security, agriculture, energy, infrastructure, and health. He further noted the establishment of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, designed to provide financial assistance to students for fees and personal upkeep. This initiative, which kicked off with a N33bn allocation, began this year with six pilot universities across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones.

Tinubu also encouraged young graduates to diversify their careers by exploring opportunities in agriculture, vocational training, and information technology. “The era of easily accessible white-collar jobs is gone,” he said, urging graduates to harness their potential in these sectors to contribute to both personal growth and national development.
