Tinubu Won’t Like This – UNICEF Makes Strong Revelation On North-East Conflict In Nigeria That Will Give Tinubu Serious Headache

UNICEF

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has revealed that Nigeria has incurred a staggering economic loss of $100 billion as a consequence of the decade-long conflict in the North-East region.

This substantial financial toll was accrued over the period from 2008 to 2021. It encompasses a wide range of impacts, including loss of life and injuries, the disruption of livelihoods, forced displacement, and extensive damage to critical infrastructure.

The study underscores that these economic repercussions extend far beyond the immediate aftermath of the conflict, exerting a long-lasting influence on Nigeria’s overall economic growth and development opportunities.

The UN agency emphasizes that this is not a transient issue; the impact will be felt over the long term.

Furthermore, it points out that the consequences of the crisis in the North-East resonate far beyond Nigeria’s borders, ultimately affecting regional growth rates. Even if conflict effects were to subside in the years ahead, the study argues that the economic implications would remain profound.

UNICEF’s Representative in Nigeria, Cristian Munduate, underscored the significance of these findings. She noted that the conflict’s extensive duration and enduring effects would leave an indelible mark on Nigeria’s economic landscape.

This prolonged strife might inhibit the nation’s economy from reaching its full potential, jeopardizing future prosperity. Munduate’s remarks emphasize the deep-seated and far-reaching impact that this conflict has had on Nigeria, and she calls attention to the urgent need for comprehensive efforts to address its long-term effects on the nation’s economy and well-being.
