Tottenham In Trouble! Taiwo Awoniyi Fires Late Winner To Deepen Relegation Fears
Tottenham Hotspur’s struggles deepened following a heavy 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest in a Premier League clash in North London, with Taiwo Awoniyi putting the result beyond doubt late in the game. According to reports, the loss leaves Spurs precariously positioned just one point above the relegation zone after another disappointing outing, while Forest climbed to 16th place, opening up a three-point gap from danger.
Forest took control despite Tottenham’s early dominance, with Igor Jesus giving the visitors the lead in first-half stoppage time with a header, redeeming himself after an earlier defensive lapse. Tottenham had dictated much of the play but were wasteful in front of goal, with Mathys Tel striking the crossbar before the interval.
The visitors extended their advantage in the 62nd minute through Morgan Gibbs-White, who capitalized on poor marking to finish from close range following a precise cutback. Tottenham failed to respond, and Awoniyi sealed the emphatic victory in the 87th minute, compounding the home side’s misery.
The result marked Nottingham Forest’s first league win under Vitor Pereira, a crucial boost in their bid for survival. Tottenham, meanwhile, remain without a Premier League win since late December, having suffered six defeats in their last seven matches, intensifying pressure on interim manager Igor Tudor, who has now lost five of his seven games in charge.
In other fixtures, Aston Villa strengthened their push for a UEFA Champions League spot with a 2-0 victory over West Ham United, as John McGinn opened the scoring and Ollie Watkins ended his goal drought. Meanwhile, Sunderland secured a dramatic 2-1 win over Newcastle United at St James’ Park, with Brian Brobbey netting a late winner.
Elsewhere, results across the league saw Bournemouth draw 2-2 with Manchester United, Brighton edge Liverpool 2-1, Fulham defeat Burnley 3-1, Everton thrash Chelsea 3-0, and Leeds United play out a goalless draw with Brentford.
