According to Ireporter Online, a Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) operative, identified as Baba Ibeji, sustained severe injuries after a loaded container truck lost control and struck him along the Offin Canal corridor leading to Eko Bridge.

The incident occurred in the early hours at Oja Junction, where witnesses reported that the truck, allegedly speeding, experienced brake failure while descending the CMS Bridge toward Eko Bridge. The vehicle hit the LAWMA worker, who was clearing refuse at the median, before colliding with a Toyota Camry bearing registration number FST 417 FS.

Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) quickly intervened and rescued the victim from beneath the wreckage. LASTMA noted that their prompt response likely prevented a fatality.

The injured worker was initially taken by colleagues to Fuja Hospital but was referred to the General Hospital due to the severity of his injuries.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa, condemned the reckless driving, ordered a full investigation, and expressed sympathy to the family of the injured worker. Giwa also praised LASTMA officers for their swift response and reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s zero tolerance policy toward reckless driving, particularly by drivers of large vehicles.
