A wireless message from the Abia State Police Command, accessed by SaharaReporters, confirmed the incident. The slain officer was identified as ASP Etet Ubokulo, whose rifle was taken by the attackers. Two other officers, ASP Etim Obungha and CPL Chukwuma, managed to escape the assault.

CPL Chukwuma, however, sustained a gunshot wound to his leg and is currently receiving treatment at the 14 Brigade Hospital. Meanwhile, ASP Etim Obungha, though unharmed, remains missing as of the latest updates.

The police situation report described the attack:
“At approximately 07:30 hrs, a patrol team led by ASP Etim Obungha was ambushed by six gunmen at Asaga Road near Terry Key in Ohafia town. The attackers killed ASP Etet Ubokulo and seized his AK-47 rifle. ASP Etim Obungha escaped into the bush with his rifle, while CPL Chukwuma, injured in his right leg, managed to return to the station with his weapon.”

Following the attack, a rescue team comprising police officers from Ohafia Division and soldiers from the 14th Brigade was deployed to locate the missing officer and investigate the incident.

The injured CPL Chukwuma is undergoing treatment, while security agencies continue to monitor the situation. Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
