The clarification was issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, following reports that suggested Adeleye was not being held in any Lagos correctional facility.

In a statement, Hundeyin explained: “We confirm that Ayomide Adeleye was charged with murder and is remanded in custody for the same offence. It is important to note that a person with the same name was remanded for a different case and released in April 2024, prior to Adeleye’s crime.”

Adeleye, a 200-level Philosophy student at Olabisi Onabanjo University, admitted to the killing of Idowu, a 300-level student at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun State, in September 2024.

On November 5, 2024, Adeleye appeared before Magistrate Seyi Omodara at the Ogba Magistrate Court, where the magistrate issued a remand warrant, allowing the police to detain him at the Ikoyi Correctional Center until further legal advice is provided by the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.

This case has captured significant public attention as further details of the tragic murder unfold.
