The Supreme Court is poised to render a crucial ruling that will determine the fate of Abba Yusuf, the governorship candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the 2023 election.

Governor Yusuf seeks a favorable judgment that would overturn the decisions of the Kano Election tribunal and the Court of Appeal, both of which removed him from office and declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate the winner.

The looming judgment has heightened tensions in the city, fueled by audible signs of unrest from members of the APC and NNPP. As a precautionary measure against potential security risks, private schools in the city have preemptively suspended their regular activities.

Although there is no official government directive for closure, various private schools have communicated their decision to shut down on Friday.

While the state’s Police Command assures the public of safety during and after the ruling, Commissioner of Police Mohammed Gumel emphasized the implementation of security measures to maintain peace.

Despite concerns, Gumel urged residents to conduct their lawful activities without fear of harassment or molestation.
