Supreme Court Reserves Verdict As APC Challenges Fintiri’s Victory In Adamawa
In a pivotal legal battle, the Supreme Court of Nigeria has reserved judgment on the appeal lodged by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its Adamawa State governorship candidate, Aisha Dahiru, popularly known as Binani….CONTINUE READING
The appeal challenges the election victory of the state governor, Ahmadu Fintiri. A five-member panel led by Justice John Okoro made the decision after hearing arguments from all parties involved.
The legal dispute traces back to the aftermath of the Adamawa governorship election. Initially declared inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on March 20, the situation led to a supplementary election scheduled for April 15.
Controversy unfolded after the supplementary poll when a declaration of Binani as the winner was made prematurely by the then-Resident Electoral Commissioner Hudu Yunusa-Ari, who was later arrested.
Despite Binani’s subsequent legal challenges, both the state election petition tribunal and the Court of Appeal had dismissed the petition against Fintiri’s victory.
The APC and its candidate are now pinning their hopes on a favorable judgment from the Supreme Court, with the decision being eagerly anticipated as the political landscape in Adamawa hangs in the balance.
