The naira has gained N125 or 8% against the dollar, with the rate improving from N1,660 to N1,536 on January 6, 2025. The black market has also seen a similar improvement, as the dollar dropped from N1,750 to N1,655.

EFEM, introduced by CBN, aims to eliminate inefficiencies and manipulation by providing real-time pricing and ensuring transparent, competitive FX transactions. This centralization of transactions offers improved visibility and reduces market distortions. However, experts warn that challenges remain, particularly with the unregulated black market and the need for enhanced liquidity in retail markets.
