What Former RCCG Pastor Who Was Installed As Soun Of Ogbomoso Will Spend Seven Days Doing

Ghandi Olaoye 1

Ghandi Laoye, a former pastor at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, who was recently installed as the new Soun of Ogbomoso in Oyo State, has commenced the series of traditional rites associated with his new role.

Having arrived in Ogbomoso from the United States early on Friday morning via a private chopper, which landed at Ogbomoso Grammar School before proceeding to the palace, Laoye now undertakes a seven-day period of seclusion. Following this, he will receive the staff of office from the state government, as reported by PUNCH.

Laoye recently stepped down from his pastoral position and passed on the responsibilities to Pastor Olumide Ogunjuyigbe in accordance with the directive of RCCG General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye.

However, there is a faction within the family that opposes Laoye’s selection by the kingmakers. Muhammed Laoye, representing this faction, has taken the matter to court, asserting that the process leading to Laoye’s nomination was inconclusive. They also contend that a minority committee, rather than the entire family, conducted the selection.

Governor Seyi Makinde, on September 2, announced the approval of Laoye as the next Soun through a statement released by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Olusegun Olayiwola. Yet, on Thursday, an Ogbomoso State High Court restrained the governor, the State Attorney General, and the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters from presenting any instrument of office or conducting any form of installation ceremony for Laoye until the court reaches a final decision on the mandatory injunction already submitted.

Meanwhile, Laoye was officially installed at the palace on Friday, a ceremony conducted at Abata by the kingmakers, led by the Areago, High Chief Sobalaje Otolorin. The kingmakers maintain that they received no court injunction preventing Laoye’s installation as the new Soun of Ogbomoso.
