Why Kuje Area Council Results Are Holding Up – INEC Reveals

According to Ireporter Online, the announcement of the Kuje Area Council chairmanship election result has been delayed due to incomplete collation in two wards, Central and Kabi. The Supervising Resident Electoral Commissioner, Abubakar Dambo, explained that while results from the other eight wards had been finalized, some collation officers initially went to incorrect locations, which slowed the process as they had to return to the INEC office before proceeding to the correct wards.

Dambo stated, “We are waiting for the remaining two wards out of ten. The delay is because the collation officers went to the wrong place and had to return to the INEC office before heading back early this morning to complete the collation process. I am sure that by now they should be on their way back from Kabi ward.”

Kuje remains the only council in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) with an outstanding result, while elections in the other five councils have been concluded. Security was heightened around the INEC office in Kuje as party agents, journalists, and security personnel gathered for the formal declaration of the winner.

In the broader FCT Area Council elections, the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured victories in Bwari, Abuja Municipal, Abaji, and Kwali. Joshua Ishaku of the APC won Bwari with 18,466 votes, while Christopher Maikalangu clinched Abuja Municipal with 40,295 votes out of 62,861 valid votes. Umar Abdullahi Abubakar of the APC emerged victorious in Abaji with 15,536 votes, and Nuhu Daniel of the APC won in Kwali with 17,032 votes.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Mohammed Kasim, defeated his APC rival in Gwagwalada, securing 22,165 votes.
