Wike: Bauchi Gov Stays In PDP, Backs Tinubu — No ADC Move
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has stated that the Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, will not defect to the African Democratic Congress, but will instead remain in the Peoples Democratic Party and support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. According to Ireporter Online, Wike made this known during a media briefing on Friday while addressing recent political developments and alignments ahead of upcoming elections. He explained that Bala Mohammed had previously clarified his stance, emphasizing his decision to stay within the PDP rather than join another political platform. Wike further disclosed that the Bauchi governor had expressed readiness to collaborate with President Tinubu despite belonging to an opposition party.
The FCT minister also revealed insights from past political interactions, noting that in 2022, Bala Mohammed had shared concerns about his strained relationship with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, suggesting that cooperation between them would be challenging. Reaffirming his personal political position, Wike reiterated his long-standing support for power rotation, stressing his continued belief in the emergence of a southern president.
Addressing internal dynamics within the PDP, Wike criticized individuals attempting to claim significant political benefits despite not contributing to the party’s struggles, describing such expectations as unfair. He also spoke on the wave of defections within the party, noting that several former members are returning. According to him, the PDP remains open to reconciliation and reintegration, emphasizing that political disagreements should not be treated as permanent divisions. He maintained that with sincerity and collective effort, party members can move forward and strengthen the PDP.
