Zamfara Commends NAF for Banditry Fight Mourns Civilian Casualties
The Zamfara State Government has praised the Nigerian military for its renewed efforts in combating banditry in the state.
Additionally, the government expressed deep condolences to the families affected by the airstrike at Tungar Kara in Zurmi LGA.
In a statement released on Sunday, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the Governor’s spokesperson, highlighted the Nigerian Air Force’s successful airstrike over the weekend, which targeted bandits attacking villages in Zurmi and Maradun local government areas.
The government conveyed sympathy for the civilian casualties resulting from the airstrike at Tungar Kara in Zurmi LGA.
The statement clarified that the victims were local vigilante members who were mistakenly identified as bandits fleeing from Gidan Makera in the Boko district of Zurmi LGA.
The statement read, “We have received numerous reports of precision strikes executed by the Air Component of Operation Fansar Yamma over the weekend in troubled Maradun and Zurmi local government areas.
“This military intervention has significantly weakened the operational capabilities of bandits and demonstrated the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to its constitutional duty of protecting civilians and ensuring the safety of lives and property.”
The responsible government assured citizens that Zamfara State remains dedicated to sustaining the gains in the fight against banditry and related criminal activities.
In light of these achievements, the state government reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Nigerian Air Force and other security agencies to maintain peace and stability in the region.
“Regrettably, some members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) and local vigilantes were also affected during the operation in Tungar Kara, leading to tragic loss of life.
“We pray to Almighty Allah to grant them Jannah,” the statement added.
The state government extended condolences to the families of the fallen JTF personnel and assured them that their sacrifices would not be forgotten.
Finally, the government called on the public to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities, and cooperate with security forces to combat banditry and achieve lasting peace in the state.
