Buhari Inaugurates Arase As PSC Chairman, Five CCB Board Members Take Oath (PHOTOS)

Former Inspector General of Police Solomon Arase (rtd.) has been sworn in as the new Chairman of the Police Service Commission by President Muhammadu Buhari (PSC).

The new PSC chairperson took the oath of office on Wednesday before the start of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, two months after the Senate confirmed him as chairperson of the PSC.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, and Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, were also present at the inauguration.

Arase, who retired in 2016, was the 18th indigenous Inspector-General of Police (IGP) (between April 2015 and June 2016) and served in a variety of capacities, including as head of the Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Bureau, the Nigerian police’s primary intelligence-gathering unit.

In an interview with State House Correspondents, Arase promised to prioritize the welfare of Nigerian Police Force officers and men.

He also promised to address the issue of corruption as well as the ongoing disagreements between the IGP and the PSC.

Meanwhile, the President has sworn in five members of the Code of Conduct Bureau’s board of directors (CCB).

They include Murtala Kankia from Katsina State (North-West); Zephaniah Bulus from Nasarawa State (North Central); Farouk Umar from Yobe State (North East); Taofeek Abdulsalam from Ondo State (South West); and Prof. Juwaria Badamasi from Kogi State (North Central).

Members of the Council also observed a moment of silence in memory of Lt. Gen. Oladipo Diya, who died on March 26, 2023.

Under Gen. Sani Abacha’s regime, Diya served as Chief of General Staff and Vice Chairman of the Provisional Ruling Council.

Diya, who was born on April 3, 1944 in Odogbolu, Ogun State, joined the Nigerian Defence Academy in Kaduna and fought in the Nigerian Civil War.

In 1993, he was named Chief of General Staff, and in 1994, he was named Vice Chairman of the Provisional Ruling Council.
