BREAKING: As Nigerians Await Presidential Election Petition Court Judgement, Tribunal Dismisses Petition With Costs
The Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Ibadan rejected the petition submitted by the Allied Peoples’ Movement against the victory of Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State in the March 18 election.
The APM disputed the declaration of Makinde, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, as the winner with 563,756 votes. The Independent National Electoral Commission and the PDP were also named as respondents in the case.
The tribunal unanimously dismissed the petition and ordered the APM to pay N1 million each to Makinde and the PDP as costs.

The tribunal deemed the petition frivolous and criticized its filing 46 days after the party was aware that their candidate was not interested in pursuing it.
The APM’s counsel requested to withdraw the petition, stating that their candidate had lost confidence and congratulated Makinde.
The tribunal was urged to strike out the petition, but Makinde’s counsel requested a punitive cost of N10 million against the petitioner, while the PDP’s counsel requested a cost of N2 million.
The INEC counsel did not oppose the withdrawal of the petition and did not seek any costs.
