BREAKING: DSS Charges Emefiele To Court (DETAILS)
The Department of State Services (DSS) has taken legal action against Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
This comes after an Abuja High Court ordered the DSS to either charge Emefiele to court or release him within one week.

The DSS spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, confirmed that Emefiele has been charged in compliance with the court order. In a statement, Afunanya mentioned that the DSS had previously sought a court order to detain Emefiele in 2022 for a criminal investigation.
Although Emefiele obtained a restraining order from the FCT High Court, he was arrested in June 2023 based on new suspected criminal infractions.
The DSS assured the public of professionalism and fairness in handling Emefiele’s case. Earlier on the same day, Justice Hamza Muazu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Abuja, issued the one-week ultimatum to the DSS, stating that Emefiele cannot remain in detention without formal charges and that the DSS cannot use the detention period to search for evidence.
Emefiele had filed a fundamental human rights suit against the DSS and the Attorney General of the Federation, seeking the enforcement of his rights to freedom of movement and dignity of human life.
He requested that his arrest and detention since June 10, without a valid court order, be declared void and set aside, and he demanded compensation of N5 million for his alleged unlawful detention.
