House Speaker Suspends PDP Lawmaker Over Media Interview (DETAILS)
The Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa, has taken the decision to suspend Chief Solomon Akpulonu, the representative of Obingwa East state constituency.
This action was taken because Akpulonu, a former majority leader of the Assembly, had been granting media interviews concerning the Assembly’s affairs.
The suspension, which will last for 14 sitting days, was prompted by the ongoing crisis in the House following the Speaker’s appointment of Hon. Uchenna Okoro from the minority Labour Party as the majority leader.

The House is composed of 11 members from the PDP, 10 from the LP, 2 from the YPP, and 1 from the APC. The PDP lawmakers, led by Akpulonu, have been protesting during sessions, asserting that as the majority party in the House, they should occupy the majority positions.
The Speaker, while announcing the suspension during a House session, stated that acts of insubordination could not be tolerated and accused Akpulonu of inciting other members against the leadership.
He also expressed disapproval of Akpulonu giving press interviews and disclosing internal House matters without proper authorization from the leadership.
The Speaker emphasized that discussions and decisions made within the House should remain confined within its walls.
He pointed out that while disagreements are normal among lawmakers, they should be conducted with decorum and in adherence to the law.
The suspended member, Akpulonu, was absent from the sitting, but the Speaker assured that the communication regarding the suspension would be conveyed to him.
