BREAKING: Go On Highest Alert – Tension As Niger Junta Gives Fresh Order To Armed Forces
The ruling junta in Niger has issued a directive to its armed forces to maintain the highest level of readiness, citing an escalated threat of potential attacks.
This directive is outlined in an official internal document released by the country’s defense chief on Friday, a document whose authenticity was confirmed by a security insider.
As reported by Reuters, the document, shared online on Saturday, stated that the order to heighten alertness aims to ensure that the armed forces can effectively respond to any attack and prevent unexpected developments.
The document expressed growing concerns about the possibility of aggressive actions against the nation’s territorial integrity.

In a separate development, Omar Touray, the President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission, clarified on Friday that the sub-regional organization has not declared war on the people of Niger Republic nor does it intend to invade the country.
Touray emphasized that ECOWAS would leverage all available measures, including deploying a standby force, to reinstate civilian governance in Niger Republic.
He also highlighted that Niger Republic, as a member of the West African regional bloc, adheres to its established rules and regulations, which permit the implementation of strategies to bolster counterterrorism efforts and ensure the reestablishment of democracy, peace, and security within the community.
The incumbent President, Mohamed Bazoum, was removed from power on July 26 through a military coup orchestrated by the former commander of Niger’s presidential guard, Abdourahamane Tchiani.
Leaders within the ECOWAS bloc have affirmed their commitment to exploring all peaceful avenues for resolving the crisis. They have also activated an ECOWAS standby force with the aim of reinstating constitutional order in Niger.
