Former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Dahiru Musdapher (retired), once criticized plea bargaining, describing it as a concept of dubious origin that has no place in Nigerian law, both substantive and procedural. He believed that it was invented to provide a soft landing for high-profile criminals who embezzle public funds.
