See What Ribadu Is Advising Tinubu To Establish

The National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, has advised President Bola Tinubu to consider establishing an Energy Security Center of Excellence or a National Agency for Energy Security.

Ribadu made this recommendation during an address at the ongoing Defense Week organized by Prof. Ayo Omotayo, the Director-General of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru, Plateau State. The event is attended by participants from the Senior Executive Course (SEC) 45 at the institute.

He urged both the Federal Ministry of Power and the Ministry of Petroleum Resources to collaborate and propose an executive bill for the creation of the Energy Security Center of Excellence. Ribadu emphasized that this center would play a vital role in formulating a strategic plan for ensuring energy security in the country.

According to Ribadu, the center should establish a strong connection between the strategic energy security plan and the national strategy for safeguarding critical national assets and infrastructure.

Additionally, the NSA recommended that the Federal Ministry of Environment and the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) should assemble a committee to develop a national action plan for addressing climate emergencies. He encouraged the environment ministry to incorporate the targets outlined in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and other United Nations (UN) programs to position Nigeria to benefit from the Carbon Credit Act.

Ribadu also advised the Federal Government to enhance the implementation of the National Industrial Revolution Plan, recognizing the pressing need for a reliable and sustainable energy supply to support industries and meet the growing demands of the economy.

Furthermore, Ribadu stressed the importance of addressing climate change, citing its impact on the environment, economy, and the well-being of Nigerian citizens. He noted the adverse effects of rising temperatures and shifting rainfall patterns, leading to recurring flooding incidents with significant human and economic costs. He called for proactive measures to mitigate climate change’s impact and adapt to the changing environmental conditions.
