The dismissal of the appeal filed by APC candidate Tonye Cole marked a decisive moment, with the court deeming it lacking in merit and incompetent.
The Supreme Court emphasized that Cole failed to substantiate allegations of non-compliance with the Electoral Act, a key point in his challenge against Fubara’s election. Cole had argued that Fubara did not resign as the accountant general of Rivers State before the election, raising concerns about alleged irregularities, non-compliance, and corrupt practices.
Despite efforts to reverse the judgments of the Court of Appeal and the Tribunal, the apex court held that Cole did not present sufficient evidence to support the claims of non-compliance with the Electoral Act. This decision upheld Fubara’s victory and reaffirmed his standing as the winner of the Rivers Governorship Election.
Channels Television reported that Fubara’s supporters organized celebratory parties across different parts of the state. The main car park of the Government House became a hub of joyous gatherings, with supporters dancing and rejoicing.
The Rivers State Council for Arts and Culture (RSCAC) also contributed to the festivities, setting up equipment for cultural performances.
Supporters and loyalists gathered around the State Secretariat complex in Port Harcourt, spreading the jubilation.
Reports indicated that workers left their duty posts to join in the celebrations, creating an overflow of excitement in the car park of Block ‘C’ within the secretariat complex. The atmosphere resonated with joy as Fubara’s victory was embraced and celebrated throughout Rivers State.
