The tension, which escalated from Thursday night into Friday, remains shrouded in uncertainty regarding its origin. However, reports indicate that the fatal confrontation began when a Yoruba man, identified as Abbey, intervened in a dispute between two Hausa individuals, only to meet a tragic end himself. Allegedly stabbed by an unknown assailant, Abbey succumbed to his injuries, igniting a retaliatory surge of violence between the two ethnic groups.

In the aftermath of the clash, chaos reigned supreme, with the once-vibrant market reduced to a scene of destruction. Food items, including precious commodities like peppers and onions, lay wasted amidst the turmoil, as commercial activities ground to a halt.

Christopher, a resident of Ogba, recounted the harrowing events, emphasizing the sudden eruption of violence and the subsequent closure of shops in fear. He remarked on the swift intervention of law enforcement from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), whose presence helped quell the escalating tension that threatened to engulf the area.

As the dust settles and the community grapples with the aftermath of this tragic incident, questions linger about the underlying tensions and the need for dialogue and reconciliation to prevent further bloodshed. The clash serves as a stark reminder of the fragility of peace and the importance of fostering harmony and understanding in a diverse and vibrant city like Lagos.
