NDLEA Busts Drug Syndicate: Grandpa, Vigilance Commander, Others Nabbed For Illicit Drug Trade

In a major crackdown on illicit drug activities, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended a 67-year-old grandfather in Magbon, Ogun State, seizing 57kg of Indian hemp from his possession along with 2,700 tramadol pills and 231 bottles of Codeine syrup…..READ ALSO NDLEA Busts Organized Drug Syndicate: Seizes Massive Cocaine And Cannabis Haul

The agency’s spokesperson, Mr. Femi Babafemi, revealed on Sunday in Abuja that in a separate operation, NDLEA operatives raided a drug joint in Benin, arresting a 24-year-old salesgirl and recovering various illicit drugs.

Further investigations led to the arrest of the joint’s owner, a 36-year-old vigilance group commander in the area.

Meanwhile, NDLEA operatives also seized 179kg of Indian hemp in Badagry, Lagos State, and apprehended a 25-year-old lady in Bagga, Borno State, with cocaine and heroin in her possession.

In Maiduguri, two male suspects aged 26 and 22 were arrested in Meri and Babban Layi areas, respectively, with quantities of cocaine and heroin.

In another interception, the agency impounded about 44,820 pills of illicit psychotropic drugs destined for Zamfara State, apprehending a 25-year-old and a 54-year-old on the Jegga-Sokoto Road in Kebbi State.

Further operations led to the arrest of a 35-year-old farmer cultivating tomatoes and Indian hemp in Birnin Yero, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Additionally, two suspects were apprehended in a commercial bus traveling from Lagos to Kano, carrying 99 blocks of Indian hemp weighing 37kg. The interception occurred on the Kwali-Gwagwalada Expressway in the Federal Capital Territory on Monday, February 19.

Lastly, in Onitsha, Anambra State, NDLEA arrested a suspect with 483 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup hidden in two 50-liter kegs. A subsequent operation led to the arrest of the syrup’s actual owner.

The series of successful operations marks a significant blow to drug trafficking networks across various states in Nigeria.
