Explosive Arrest Kwara Senator Taken Into Custody By NDLEA Drugs Discovered In His House

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has revealed that illegal drugs were discovered at the residence of Kwara South Senator, Oyeyola Ashiru. The agency suggests that Ashiru’s recent criticism of the NDLEA stems from a personal grudge rather than a legitimate concern for the public interest.

Senator Ashiru, during a plenary session on October 15, had accused the NDLEA of being corrupt and compromised, calling for the creation of a new anti-drug agency to replace it. However, NDLEA Chairman, Brig Gen Buba Marwa (Rtd), represented by the Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, rejected Ashiru’s claims, asserting that the senator’s allegations were intended to divert attention from a prior NDLEA operation at his residence.

According to Marwa, drugs and other illicit substances were found during a raid on the senator’s home in GRA, Ilorin, following credible intelligence that the property was being used as a hub for drug-related activities. Two of the senator’s aides, Ibrahim Mohammed and Muhammed Yahaya, were arrested, while a third suspect managed to evade capture.

Additionally, the NDLEA detailed another operation in Offa, Kwara State, where one of Ashiru’s associates, Oluwatosin Odepidan, was apprehended for drug trafficking. Despite efforts by the senator’s personal assistant to interfere with the investigation, Odepidan was prosecuted and convicted in June 2024.

In response to Senator Ashiru’s remarks, Marwa stated, “The senator’s attack appears to be driven by personal motives, as our investigations have uncovered links between his residence and illicit drug activities. His statements do not reflect the public interest but seem aimed at damaging the NDLEA’s reputation.”

Marwa further emphasized that the NDLEA has received international recognition for its efforts in combating drug trafficking, with support from governments such as the UK and the US. He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to its mission and noted that it would not be swayed by false accusations.

Despite Senator Ashiru’s allegations, the NDLEA remains steadfast in dismantling all drug networks, including those linked to the lawmaker’s residence.
