Osun 2026: Adeleke Declares Friday Public Holiday Ahead Of Governorship Election
Ahead of the August 15 governorship election in Osun State, Governor Ademola Adeleke has declared Friday, August 14, a work-free day for public servants across the state.
According to Ireporter Online, the directive was issued to enable workers who may need to travel to their respective polling areas to do so and make adequate preparations to participate in Saturday’s election.
The decision was communicated through a circular signed by the Head of Service, Elder Ayanleye Aina, and later confirmed by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed.
The declaration applies to public servants across the state, except workers involved in emergency and essential services who are required to remain on duty.
Adeleke also urged workers, their relatives and associates to turn out in large numbers for the election and protect their votes, as he called for the continuation of what he described as the achievements of his administration.
The governor commended the state’s labour leadership and workers for their cooperation with his administration, describing the relationship as mutually beneficial.
He urged workers to mobilise artisans, informal-sector workers and members of professional groups to participate actively in the electoral process.
Adeleke stressed the importance of exercising the constitutional right to vote and called on residents to safeguard what he described as the gains recorded by his administration over the past three and a half years.
The governor further described his administration as workers-friendly, pointing to its policies and programmes for labour and the wider population.
He urged voters to remain peaceful while participating in the election and emphasised the need for citizens to make their choices freely.
