Osun 2026: PDP Candidate Withdraws, Throws Support Behind Adeleke

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election, Adedamola Adebayo, popularly known as FRYO, has withdrawn from the race and endorsed incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke.

According to Ireporter Online, Adebayo announced his decision on Wednesday during a press conference in Osogbo, just three days before the election.

He also directed PDP members, supporters and political structures associated with his leadership across the state to support Adeleke’s re-election bid.

Adebayo explained that the decision followed extensive consultations with political stakeholders and a careful assessment of the prevailing political situation in Osun.

He stressed that his withdrawal was not motivated by personal considerations but by what he described as the broader interest of the state.

The former candidate maintained that politics was not solely about contesting elections, noting that political leaders must sometimes make difficult choices and place the interests of the people above personal ambition.

Adebayo said he had personally taken responsibility for the decision and informed PDP leaders, members and other stakeholders across the state about his position.

While acknowledging that some of his supporters might disagree with his decision, he urged them to respect the democratic process and accept that people could hold different political opinions.

He also appealed to political leaders, candidates and supporters to avoid violence, intimidation, hate speech and other forms of hostility before, during and after Saturday’s election.

According to him, Osun State was more important than any individual, political party or election, stressing that residents would remain together regardless of the outcome of the poll.

Adebayo further noted that the election would eventually end, while families, communities and relationships would continue beyond the electoral contest.

He expressed appreciation to those who supported his governorship ambition, saying his decision to back Adeleke did not erase the relationships and political experiences built during his campaign.

The former PDP candidate urged his supporters to support Adeleke peacefully and responsibly, calling for unity, maturity and stability as the state prepares for the election.
