Osun Election: Adeleke’s Camp Appeals To IGP For Protection Of Accord Members

According to Ireporter Online, the campaign council made the request in a petition submitted to the police chief on Wednesday over alleged inflammatory remarks attributed to Senator Francis Fadahunsi, representing Osun East Senatorial District, in a video circulating on social media.

Fadahunsi has denied making the remarks, maintaining that his comments were taken out of context. He was subsequently invited by the Osun State Police Command over the matter and honoured the invitation.

In the petition signed by the council’s spokesman, Pelumi Olajengbesi, the campaign organisation expressed concern that the alleged statements, if verified, could create security risks for Accord Party members and supporters.

The council specifically raised concerns about the situation in Ilesa and other communities within Osun East Senatorial District, urging the police to take precautionary measures to protect residents and political supporters.

It called on the Nigeria Police Force to deploy adequate personnel before, during and after the election, stressing that political affiliation should not determine a citizen’s access to security protection.

The campaign council maintained that no Nigerian should face the threat of violence because of his or her political choice and urged the authorities to ensure that eligible voters could participate in the election safely.

It also requested adequate and impartial security presence at polling units, collation centres and other strategic locations across Osun State.

According to the council, the security deployment would help prevent intimidation and harassment while creating a safe environment for voters to exercise their franchise.

The appeal comes as political activities intensify ahead of Saturday’s governorship election, with competing parties and their supporters preparing for the highly anticipated poll.
