Hausa Comedy Loses Icon As Beloved Comedian Tumbuleke D!es At 86

Popular Hausa comedian Alhaji Muhammad Sani Gwarzo, better known as Tumbuleke, has died at the age of 86 in Kaduna State.

According to Ireporter Online, the veteran entertainer passed away at about 3pm on Tuesday following a prolonged illness. His death was confirmed by his son, Tukur Sani Gwarzo, who described him as a loving father and a man who maintained cordial relationships with people.

Tumbuleke became a household name among Hausa-speaking audiences through his appearances on the popular comedy programme Gidan Kashe Ahu, which was broadcast by the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) and the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) during the 1980s.

His son said the comedian died on Tuesday and was buried the same day after a funeral prayer held at his residence along Zaria Road in Kaduna.

Tukur said his father was a caring family man who was widely loved by those who knew him, adding that he was 86 years old at the time of his death.

Throughout his career, Tumbuleke entertained audiences with his distinctive style of Hausa comedy and became one of the recognised personalities who contributed to the growth and popularity of Hausa-language entertainment.

His death has left family members, friends, colleagues and admirers mourning the loss of a veteran entertainer whose work touched generations of Hausa-speaking audiences.
