The suspects, identified as 30-year-old Ikenna Obiko and 24-year-old Isichukwu Eneji, were arrested in the Olu Obasanjo area of Port Harcourt while riding a motorcycle.
Upon interrogation, both suspects confessed to their criminal activities, revealing that they targeted parked cars to rob victims of their money and belongings using specialized keys. They also admitted to stealing motorcycles by manipulating ignition wires and robbing bank customers after withdrawals at ATM centers.
Recently, the duo was involved in a robbery case where they seized N100,000 from a driver of an Indomie Noodles vehicle. Police investigations uncovered their involvement in the theft of three motorcycles this year, with two of them recovered from locations along Choba Road and Eliozu respectively.
Ikenna and Isichukwu, both natives of Oguta in Imo State, relocated to Port Harcourt last year amid the crisis in the South East, allegedly due to the influence of deceased community leaders and relatives involved in criminal activities.
Ikenna attributed his descent into crime to a deceased community leader, while Isichukwu admitted being tutored in robbery by his late uncle.
Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, has ordered the immediate prosecution of the suspects, emphasizing the commitment of the police to combat crime in the state. He urged the public to remain law-abiding and collaborate with law enforcement agencies in the ongoing fight against crime and criminality.
