Bauchi Government Issues Stern Warning To Essential Commodities Dealers Over Price Hikes

In a bid to safeguard the interests of its citizens amidst economic uncertainties, the Bauchi Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission has issued a stern warning to food and essential commodities dealers in the state against unjustifiable price hikes and hoarding.

Chairman of the Agency, DIG Sani Usman Muhammad (rtd), delivered the cautionary message during a high-level meeting with officials representing major foodstuff dealers in Bauchi. Emphasizing the detrimental impact of such actions on the populace, he underscored the government’s unwavering commitment to maintaining accessibility and affordability of essential goods.

Expressing zero tolerance for exploitative practices, Muhammad vowed decisive action against any merchant found culpable of inflating prices or hoarding goods. He outlined robust measures aimed at curbing such activities, reaffirming the government’s dedication to protecting the welfare of its citizens.

In a collaborative effort to address the prevailing challenges, Muhammad urged merchants to join forces in devising viable solutions to mitigate the burden of high prices, particularly for vulnerable segments of society.

In response, Abdullahi Mohammed, chairman of the Bauchi Traders and Artisans Association, echoed the sentiment, urging members to uphold ethical standards and refrain from engaging in practices that could exacerbate the plight of consumers. He cautioned against the consequences of flouting regulations, warning of legal repercussions for violators.

As Bauchi confronts the economic realities of the times, the government’s proactive stance signals a concerted effort to alleviate the burden on its populace, fostering an environment of transparency, fairness, and social responsibility in the marketplace.
