The verdict was handed down by the Abia High Court in Ukwa after an 11-year-long trial. Amaugo and Oka were accused of causing the deaths of two young individuals named Temple Nwakanma and Martins Azih near Osisioma Junction, on the outskirts of Aba.

Justice Chibuzo Ahuchaogu found the defendants guilty and convicted them due to their failure to provide sufficient evidence regarding the fate and whereabouts of Nwakanma and Azih.

Throughout the trial, the convicts claimed that they had apprehended the youths in 2013 for possessing firearms, cartridges, and knives. They alleged that while transporting the detainees to their headquarters in Umuahia, they encountered soldiers at Abia Tower. These soldiers reportedly interrogated the youths and took them into custody.

However, the Nigerian Army denied any involvement in the incident, leaving the fate of the young individuals unresolved.
