Competing against formidable opponents from across Africa, Team Nigeria showcased exceptional skill and determination in the Sambo event, which was among the demonstration sports featured at the tournament.

James Chegwam kicked off Nigeria’s medal haul by claiming bronze in the men’s 58kg category, setting the stage for further success. Jonah Kajido added to the tally with a silver medal in the men’s 79kg category, demonstrating Nigeria’s competitiveness on the international stage.

The highlight of Nigeria’s performance came from Charity Jatau, who clinched gold in the women’s 59kg category, showcasing outstanding prowess and determination. Fatima Ogbonyomi contributed to Nigeria’s medal haul with a silver in the women’s 65kg category, ensuring that every Nigerian athlete in the Sambo event returned home with a medal.
