Many Killed, Residents Flee As Suspected Herdsmen Raid Benue Community

According to accounts gathered by Naija News, the assailants stormed the village early Thursday morning, targeting the homes of villagers and looting food supplies.

Eric Amodu, a resident of the community, lamented the prolonged attack, which lasted for over two hours, with no security intervention in sight. He expressed frustration over the apparent lack of response from security forces, suggesting possible collusion.

Meanwhile, in a related incident, unidentified gunmen reportedly struck the Onipi community in the Adoka District of Otukpo Local Government Area, claiming the lives of two farmers and causing panic among locals.

The attack, which occurred on Tuesday morning, prompted farmers to abandon their fields, leaving some injured and others unaccounted for.

Alfred Oketa Omakwu, the Caretaker Council Chairman of Otukpo LGA, confirmed the tragic deaths of the two farmers and revealed that 12 individuals sustained injuries during the assault. He assured that the injured victims were receiving medical attention at nearby hospitals.

The incidents underscore the escalating security challenges faced by communities in Benue State, with residents living in fear amid the persistent attacks by armed assailants.
