Military Airstrikes K!ll ISWAP VIP Escort Commander, Several Terrorists

The Nigerian military has reportedly carried out airstrikes on ISWAP positions in Borno State, killing nine members of the terrorist group, including a commander linked to the movement of senior operatives across the Sambisa Forest axis.

According to Ireporter Online, the strikes were conducted on Saturday, August 8, around the Yuwe and Sabil Huda enclaves in Borno State as part of ongoing military operations against terrorist groups in the region.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama, citing intelligence sources, identified one of the reported casualties as Qaid Abu Khalid Al Muhajir, an ISWAP commander from Maiduguri who was allegedly responsible for escorting senior members of the group.

Abu Khalid was reportedly involved in coordinating the movement of high-ranking ISWAP operatives and other key members between different enclaves. His knowledge of routes across the Sambisa Forest and surrounding areas was said to have made him an important figure within the group’s mobility network.

The intelligence report claimed that his responsibilities included helping senior commanders navigate routes between operational locations while reducing the risk of interception by security forces.

Nine ISWAP fighters were reportedly killed during the operation, while several others were said to have sustained injuries. Some of the casualties were allegedly linked to a faction suspected of involvement in an earlier attack on Nigerian troops along the Bita-Yamtage axis in Gwoza Local Government Area.

Security sources said the reported death of Abu Khalid could affect ISWAP’s ability to move senior commanders between the Sambisa Forest and Gwoza areas, particularly because of his alleged knowledge of the terrain and established movement routes.

However, the casualty claims had not been independently confirmed by the Nigerian military at the time of the report.

Security agencies are expected to continue intelligence gathering, surveillance and further assessments to determine the full impact of the operation and identify surviving members of the affected cells.

The latest strikes form part of sustained military efforts to disrupt the command structures, logistics networks and operational movements of ISWAP and Boko Haram fighters operating across Borno State.
