Among the victims were identified as Okeh Simon Ugwu Oruku, Okeh Chukwuebuka, Julius Ogbonna Odiegwu, and Gabriel Ugwor Eze. The assailants targeted mourners at Ugwuijoro Nimbo community, leaving behind a trail of tears and sorrow.

Disturbing images of the incident have surfaced, depicting the aftermath of the attack. This incident evokes memories of a similar attack on Nimbo in 2016, which led to widespread national outrage.

As of the time of this report, neither the police command nor the state government has issued an official statement regarding the latest occurrence.

In a related development, weeks ago, a police checkpoint along the Abakaliki-Enugu Highway was targeted by gunmen. The incident resulted in the burning of a police patrol van at Ishieke junction, located on the outskirts of Abakaliki town. While details remain sketchy, there are reports of one police officer killed and another abducted during the attack. However, these claims are yet to be independently verified.

The police spokesperson in Ebonyi, Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the attack but stated that he had limited information about casualties. Investigations into both incidents are ongoing, and authorities are working to gather more details.
