Yahaya Bello, facing a 19-count charge including allegations of money laundering and misappropriation of funds amounting to N80.2 billion, has been absent from his scheduled arraignment. However, EFCC counsel Kemi Pinheiro (SAN) stated that if Bello commits to attending the next court date, the arrest warrant will not be executed.

Bello’s lawyer, Adeola Adedipe (SAN), raised concerns about his client’s apprehension due to the existing arrest warrant. Pinheiro assured that the warrant would be set aside if Bello appears in court, emphasizing that he should not use legal tactics to avoid facing the charges.

Despite Adedipe’s request to rescind the ex parte order of arrest, Pinheiro urged the court to deny the application unless Bello presents himself for trial. He emphasized that Bello’s physical presence is essential for the proceedings to continue effectively.

The decision on the request to vacate the arrest warrant lies with Justice Emeka Nwite, the presiding judge. The EFCC maintains that Bello’s attendance in court is crucial to ensure a fair and efficient trial process.
