In a scathing commentary shared on his verified Facebook account on Sunday, Lamido condemned the governors’ decision to travel to the US to attend a lecture on security issues, organized by the United States Institute of Peace (USIP), instead of prioritizing pressing local concerns such as agriculture or healthcare.

He argued that their engagement with security matters, falling under the Exclusive Legislative List, underscored their ignorance of the Constitution. Lamido highlighted the urgent need for improved basic amenities like water and education in their states and accused them of lacking empathy for their constituents.

Lamido suggested that the governors could have addressed security concerns more effectively by utilizing local institutions like the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) or the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON), rather than embarking on a costly journey abroad.

He criticized the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Nigerian Intelligence Agency (NIA) for failing to provide proper guidance to the governors, expressing concern over Nigeria’s tarnished international image due to their actions.
