The suspects were handed over to the EFCC by the Nigerian Navy in Lagos, marking a significant step in the fight against economic sabotage and criminality.

According to a statement released by the EFCC, the suspects were apprehended alongside a vessel, MT SWEET MIRI, by officers of the Nigerian Navy for alleged oil bunkering and Automatic Identification System (AIS) infractions. The vessel, laden with approximately 1,322 metric tonnes of substance resembling crude oil, was seized without proper documentation permitting its possession of the cargo.

Among the suspects identified are Abu Smith, Pascal Anyafulu, David Ali, Mba Okpanu, Chukuma Friday Obiazi, Miye Victor, and Richard Kofi, alongside others. The EFCC’s Head of Extractive Industry Fraud Section, Moses Awolusi, has assured the Navy of thorough investigations and subsequent prosecution of the suspects and exhibits.

This collaborative effort between the EFCC and the Nigerian Navy underscores the commitment of law enforcement agencies to tackle economic crimes and safeguard the nation’s resources.
