Mohbad’s Son: Court Delays Proceedings On DNA Paternity Test
The Chief Magistrates Court in Ikorodu, Lagos State, has adjourned proceedings on the DNA application filed to establish the paternity of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba’s (known as Mohbad) son.
The adjournment came after settlement talks between the Aloba family and Mohbad’s wife, Wunmi, collapsed.
According to a statement from the family’s legal representative, Monisola Odumosu, made available to The Nation, the court, during its session on July 9, 2024, directed both parties to pursue alternative dispute resolution. Despite attempts at negotiation, the talks did not reach an agreement.
Odumosu explained that the failure of the negotiations was attributed to “external factors.” The statement noted: “Emmanuel Oroko of Hillceetee Partners, representing Joseph Aloba, informed the court that, despite sincere efforts, the settlement talks faltered due to external factors. M.K.O Orire Esq., representing the respondent, confirmed this breakdown.”
Following petitions from both legal teams, Magistrate His Honour Mrs. A.B. Olagbegi-Adelabu adjourned the case to allow for the hearing of all pending applications related to the DNA test.
The court advised the parties to continue exploring settlement options before the next hearing.
The Aloba family had requested a DNA test after paternity issues concerning the child of Mohbad and his wife became contentious on social media.
The family emphasised the need for the test due to the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death.
The statement also clarified that no official spokesperson had been designated by the family and disavowed any statements made without authorization from its legal team.
Mohbad passed away on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27, with the circumstances of his death leading to significant controversy on social media.
