Over 10,000 people have been displaced and extensive farmlands have been destroyed in Gummi Local Government Area of Zamfara State following severe flooding caused by weeks of intense rainfall. Emir of Gummi, Justice Hassan Lawal, reported the damage during a visit by Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, who conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the affected areas.
Governor Lawal announced immediate relief measures, including ₦100,000 for each household affected, 10,000 bags of assorted grains, mosquito nets, and blankets. He also pledged long-term flood management solutions such as constructing new drainage systems and repairing or building additional dams.
