Defamation Showdown: VeryDarkMan Fights Falana Family’s Court Victory

Social media influencer Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has filed an appeal in the Lagos State High Court seeking permission to challenge the ruling made on October 14, 2024, by Justice M.O. According to court documents, the Falanas sued VeryDarkMan over alleged defamatory statements involving a conversation with Idris Okuneye (Bobrisky), where Bobrisky reportedly sought legal and financial aid from Falz, including ₦3 million for preferential treatment during his detention.

Justice Dawodu had ordered VeryDarkMan and his associates to remove defamatory content about the Falanas from social media and prohibited him from posting any further material of this nature.

In his appeal application, VeryDarkMan cited multiple grounds, requesting an extension of time to seek permission for the appeal. He argued that the initial ruling was based solely on the Falanas’ affidavit and stressed that denying him the right to appeal could constitute a miscarriage of justice. He noted that the appellate court’s role in reviewing and clarifying such decisions is crucial to upholding the judicial system’s integrity.
