The conflict, primarily between the Supreme Eiye Confraternity (SEC) and the Supreme Vikings Confraternity, intensified following a failed mediation meeting held at Tipper Garage in the Idogbo area. The violence reportedly began when alleged Eiye members attacked Vikings members with knives, causing injuries. In retaliation, the Vikings allegedly killed several Eiye members, further igniting the conflict.

Local groups have since called on community leaders and the police to intervene. The Benin United Forum (BUF) has appealed to the Oba of Benin, Ewuare II, to impose traditional curses on those involved, while the Network of Civil Society Organisations (NOCSON) has urged authorities to lift the ban on vigilante groups to curb the rising crime rate in the area.
