motorcycles (Okada), taxis, and heavy-duty trucks from accessing the route.
The statement, issued by Commissioner of Works and Transport Abdulquawiy Olododo, mandates the Kwara State Traffic Management Agency (KWARTMA) to enforce the new restrictions immediately. Violators of the order risk a fine of up to N50,000.
Ahmadu Bello Way, recently rehabilitated, serves as a key alternate route to several areas in Ilorin Metropolis, including Tanke, Fate, and River Basin. Restrictions aim to reduce traffic congestion and enhance security along the Government House road.
KWARTMA’s acting CEO, Engr. Bamidele Michael, emphasized that the new directive complements existing “No Parking” signs and promotes safety. The ministry has also begun installing restriction signs along the road from Challenge to Ahmadu Bello Way.
The commissioner urged traders to avoid encroaching on pedestrian walkways across key locations, warning of stricter enforcement against road violations, including driving against traffic. The “Not Allowed” signs on Ahmadu Bello Way carry a higher penalty of N50,000 for non-compliance.
Olododo appealed for public cooperation to ensure safer, more organized road usage for all residents.
