Kano Government Blames Federal Government For Barricade At Emir’s Palace
The Kano State Government has accused the Federal Government of orchestrating the security takeover of the palace belonging to the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, on Friday…READ MORE…

During a local radio interview, Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, the Secretary to the State Government, expressed his astonishment at the police’s decision to seal off the palace’s entrance. He stated, “We were shocked to wake up to the news of the police sealing off the entrance to the palace of Kano Emir, Muhammadu Sanusi II.”

Bichi added, “What troubles us most is that Kano is peaceful. However, a few individuals with support from Abuja do not wish for peace in Kano. The emir was scheduled to accompany his district head of Bichi, Wamban Kano, for prayers and then return. We had all been invited, only to wake up to this situation. When we sought clarification, we were told it was an order from above, referring to the Federal Government.”

He emphasized the state’s commitment to maintaining peace, asserting, “We in Kano are determined to uphold peace, and it will prevail. No one will come to Kano and create instability. The emir has appointed the district head, and that decision stands. The emir will accompany him to his post, and we will join him when the time arrives.”

Earlier, Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II, who subsequently led the Friday congregational prayer at the Kano Central Mosque outside the palace, called on the people of the state to remain calm and reject violence. He stated, “I warned you against falling into the traps set by Kano’s enemies, who seek to see our state engulfed in chaos. They continuously aim to incite killings, destruction of public properties, and the injury of innocent lives.”

Palace sources indicated that the security barricade was likely related to the Emir’s planned escort of the newly appointed Wamban Kano and District Head of Bichi, Munir Sanusi, to his official post. Other reports suggested it might be connected to the Emir’s intention to meet with economists regarding proposed tax reform legislation.
