This holiday season has seen sharp airfare increases due to high demand and ongoing economic challenges. Passengers have expressed frustration, noting the exorbitant prices as unaffordable during these tough times.

An investigation into multiple airline booking sites, including Air Peace, revealed that flight prices have surged considerably. For instance, a flight from Lagos to Asaba, Delta State, went from N97,400 on December 5 to N287,800 by December 18. The same sharp rise is seen in routes such as Abuja to Asaba, Lagos to Benin, and Lagos to Uyo. As the holiday season draws closer, airlines are expected to maintain these prices through the end of the year.

In contrast, Aero Contractors has responded by slashing fares to an average of N80,000 across all destinations, providing some relief to passengers.

However, many travelers, like Mrs. Nkechi Joshua, a mother of four, have decided to forgo the journey due to unaffordable airfares. She emphasized that the cost of tickets would drain her holiday funds, making travel impossible.

Meanwhile, road transporters are also preparing for potential fare increases, with prices for bus trips from Lagos and Abuja to the South-East expected to rise based on fluctuating fuel costs. Despite these challenges, many passengers are opting for early travel to avoid further price hikes during the peak holiday rush.
