The 2024 Duplo Salary Report, based on a survey of 593 finance professionals, shows that nearly 27% of respondents are extremely dissatisfied with their pay, while another 29% express moderate dissatisfaction. Only a small 3% are fully content with their compensation, reflecting a dramatic decline in satisfaction.

The survey also highlights the overwhelming impact of economic instability on workers’ finances. A staggering 91.6% of respondents cite exchange rate fluctuations and rising inflation as major challenges. Additionally, the report reveals that issues like economic instability (41.4%) and migration (often referred to as “Japa”) are major obstacles to retaining top talent in Nigeria’s finance industry.

Interestingly, professionals who frequently negotiate their salaries report higher satisfaction, underscoring the importance of negotiation skills in securing better compensation. This aligns with broader industry trends that suggest salary negotiations play a critical role in job satisfaction and financial success.

Yele Oyekola, CEO of Duplo, stresses the need for CFOs and finance leaders to offer transparent, inflation-adjusted compensation packages to retain top talent. In addition to competitive salaries, Oyekola suggests exploring innovative benefits like flexible work arrangements, performance-based incentives, and investing in employee upskilling to foster loyalty and maintain a competitive edge.
