In a bold statement, Gusau acknowledged the team’s struggles but expressed unwavering hope for a turnaround. He drew inspiration from the Super Eagles’ near-victory at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast, where they finished as runners-up.

“Our aim is to rekindle the spirit of the Super Eagles that once made Nigeria proud,” Gusau said. “Winning the six remaining matches to secure automatic qualification is a steep challenge, but it’s achievable with the right mindset and preparation.”

The Super Eagles’ qualification campaign has seen notable setbacks, including draws against Lesotho, South Africa, and Zimbabwe, and a critical 2-1 loss to Benin Republic.
