Speaking to journalists in Lagos on Sunday, Akande dismissed discussions of shifting power back to the North as futile. He stressed that the South must complete its eight-year term, maintaining the national consensus on rotational leadership between the South and the North.

“It’s childish to suggest ending the Southern presidency in 2027. Rotational presidency is here to stay, and reversing it won’t work,” Akande stated.

He also expressed skepticism over political alliances aimed at opposing the ruling APC in 2027, noting that such strategies often fail to address Nigeria’s core challenges.

“In 2014, we saw mergers like APC, but nine years later, the expectations remain unmet. Changing faces in power without addressing fundamental issues like poverty, corruption, and restructuring will achieve nothing,” he added.

Akande called on Nigerians to focus on building a national consensus around critical issues such as the rule of law, local government autonomy, and constitutional reforms ahead of the 2027 elections.
