Terror On The Streets: Police Dismantle Gang Behind Abduction Of AIG’s Wife

Authorities from the Lagos State Police Command arrested two additional suspects believed to be connected to the kidnapping of Mrs. Folasade Odumosu, spouse of former Assistant Inspector-General of Police Hakeem Odumosu, on Friday.

The suspects, identified as 27-year-old Agbojule Smart and 30-year-old Keleke Michael, were apprehended by the Special Squad of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police.

This information was confirmed in an official statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja. The Nigeria Police Force also shared on its Facebook page that the arrest led to the recovery of two locally made rifles, 11 live cartridges, and a sum of N2.25 million from the suspects.

In the statement, Adejobi noted: “Following directives from the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM., aimed at tracking down the remaining suspects in the kidnapping of the wife of retired Assistant Inspector-General Hakeem Odumosu, Mrs. Odumosu, the operatives of the Lagos State CP Special Squad successfully captured two suspects, Agbojule Smart, 27, and Keleke Michael, 30.”

The suspects were arrested in the early hours of Friday, January 24, 2025, while attempting to leave Lagos State. During interrogation, they admitted to their involvement and revealed they were part of a four-member gang, two of whom had been previously neutralized.

Upon their capture, the police recovered N2,250,000, which was considered part of the ransom demand, alongside the firearms and ammunition.

IGP Egbetokun commended the operatives for their bravery in apprehending the suspects and encouraged them to maintain their exemplary standards in the fight against crime, reinforcing the police’s commitment to enhancing public safety and minimizing criminal activities to promote peace nationwide.

PUNCH Online reports that Folasade was kidnapped from her home in the Arepo area of Ogun State during the night of Thursday, January 16, 2024. Less than a week later, with the support of technical intelligence from the Force Headquarters and Ogun State police, she was rescued after a gunfight with her abductors in a marshy region of Ikorodu, Lagos State, on Wednesday.
